Saturday, January 30, 2021 my sweet hubby Gary and I decided to head into San Francisco and spend a fun day in the city. It’s the first time since before March 2020 that we’ve been in downtown San Francisco because everything went into lockdown due to the Covid pandemic. Just 2 days ago the Governor started allowing some businesses to reopen and outdoor dining to resume but we are still in the purple tier so the utmost precautions, masks, and social distancing  is a must.

It had rained that morning but was already drying out with sunshine starting to come through as we made the 50 mile drive into the city. The drive was pretty quiet. Not too much traffic as folks appeared to still be staying home for the most part. The blue sky was brilliant and the sun was out as we made our way over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Review

The Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Wall Mural Popeye

I am so excited to tell you about our stay at a San Francisco boutique hotel called The Hotel Zephyr. We specifically chose this hotel for its location and theme; nautical and located right in the heart of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. The guest rooms have porthole windows and “SOS” bedding. Anything novelty or kitsch and we are there!

The Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Nautical Theme SOS

The Hotel Zephyr in San Francisco is a family friendly motel with over 300 rooms and decorated in a nautical theme with a fabulous courtyard filled with seating areas, multiple fire pits, retro games that are life-size like Connect Four and Jenga. There is also a vintage 1950s Shasta trailer serving up snacks and beverages and then there is an amazing game room filled with comfortable seating, ping-pong tables, pool, and table shuffleboard. So much to do right there at the hotel!! The lobby is so cool with shipping container wall panels, porthole windows and seating, rope buoy lighting, an incredible wall mural of Popeye the Sailor Man and lots of spots to plugin and sit on comfortable sofas and chairs. There is also a retro style photo booth.

Mod Mint Day in San Francisco

Yasmina Greco Modcloth Collectif Golden State of Mind A-Line Dress

A fit and flare dress is universally flattering on a number of body shapes while making legs look longer and showing off your waist. This aqua blue beauty with a stunning border print of San Francisco in particular from retailer Modcloth in collaboration with one of my favorite vintage-style brands Collectif Clothing made me swoon from the first moment I saw the Collectif MC Golden State of Mind A-Line Dress online.

Living in the Bay Area this dress was an absolute must for me!! It arrived very quickly and I could not wait to put it on and shoot it for you all. I was not sure exactly which size to order but I followed the online size guide to fit my bust and am wearing the dress in size 20 (UK) and it fits my curves perfectly. Dress is available in sizes 4 (UK) – 28 (UK). It is so wonderful that Modcloth has beautiful clothing for us plus size gals. There is room for my ample bust, it has pockets, and the skirt is so full and gives me such a feminine silhouette and makes me want to twirl, twirl, twirl.

A Day in San Francisco’s Little Italy and China Town

Golden Gate Bridge

We are taking a day trip into San Francisco today. Hubby and I both needed a little adventure with yummy food and lots of sights to see. I knew we would be doing a good amount of walking but I still wanted my pinup style to shine so I opted for my Cherry Velvet dress that’s a great turquoise blue color with lots of lush red cherries, my red cardigan and pair of Betsey Johnson tennis shoes. I received so many compliments on my dress!!

The drive down from wine country was pretty with lots of sunshine. Even after all these years of driving across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, I still get a thrill. The day was super clear and there were lots of sailboats in the bay and you could see Alcatraz clearly. We headed up to North Beach, San Francisco’s Little Italy for lunch. We stopped by Calzones, one of our favorite restaurants that has lots of tables and chairs out front and excellent people watching. Hubby ordered the pepperoni pizza made with a sauce of the best San Marzano tomatoes and artisan pepperoni. I ordered the lasagna. Calzone’s makes delicious food and their portions are big. My lasagna was loaded with meat sauce and a perfect amount of filling to pasta ratio, it was absolutely delicious.

After a hearty lunch we stopped next door at Biordi for their amazing hand-painted Italian pottery. The vast amount of styles and colors the majolica comes in is breathtaking. From dish sets and place settings, to vases, urns and tables and more, there is so much to look at and take in. Biorid’s is a must for anyone that loves Italian pottery.
