What’s the best thing to eat when you’re in San Francisco? Some might say it’s sourdough bread, but we know the answer is really pizza….. and garlic. Lots and lots of garlic. In fact, there’s a whole restaurant devoted to this pungent herb: The Stinking Rose.

In a city full of amazing food options, it can be hard to stand out. But The Stinking Rose in San Francisco does just that – and with its unique name, it’s been a landmark since the 1990s. This restaurant is known for its garlic-infused dishes, it even has garlic appetizers and 40 cloves of garlic chicken. But if you’re in the mood for some truly delicious pizza, then this is the place for you.

The Stinking Rose is a kitsch collector’s dream come true with all the unique kitchenalia decorating the red interior walls with vintage and retro themed boxes and bottles of pastas and tomato sauces and the hanging salamis and garlic braids. There is even a garlic lady mannequin on the way to the restrooms that is dressed in a garlic bulb hat!! This Italian eatery is a feast for the eyes and the stomach!!

The Cheesecake Factory Flatbread Pizza

The Cheesecake Factory Flatbread Pizza
The Cheesecake Factory Flatbread Pepperoni Pizza

If you’re a foodie visiting the Bay Area, you’ll undoubtedly want to check out The Cheesecake Factory just outside San Francisco. This iconic restaurant chain has been serving up their unique take on this Italian classic for years, and it’s definitely worth a try! But what exactly is so special about their pizza? Keep reading for my review!

Today, my final pizza review of 2021 comes to an end as I am eating the flatbread pizza from The Cheesecake Factory. This is a restaurant chain that has an incredibly vast menu of appetizers, salads, glamburgers, pastas and pizzas and so much more.

Hubby and I stopped at The Cheesecake Factory right before New Year’s Eve. I love visiting this restaurant because it has a really great ambiance with their mosaics, palm trees, almost Greco-Roman design, and Egyptian columns. You really have to see it to appreciate it. The feeling inside is of a higher-end premium scale eatery chain where ‘denim and diamonds’ and designer handbags are the norm.

Campo Fina Pizza

Campo Fina Pizza Healdsburg

Pizza is a true staple of any Italian meal. But with all the options out there, how do you know which one to choose? Look no further than Campo Fina in Healdsburg, CA for some delicious pizza. Campo Fina is located in lovely Healdsburg, in Northern San Francisco. Healdsburg is a bougie tourist hot spot in wine country and it is great for people watching, lots of wine tasting opportunities, a delightful central square surrounded by shops, boutique hotels, and restaurants. At Campo Fina you can choose from multiple pizza toppings such as smoked pecorino, sautéed chard, Calabrian chili’s, spicy sausage or fennel sausage, smoked pork belly and more! This place is perfect for tourists looking to try something new on their trip to up to wine country.

Gary and I just wrapped an epic photoshoot and were looking for a late lunch/early dinner spot and decided to try Camp Fina. We had seen this back-alley eatery packed with a line on a couple of our trips to Healdsburg over the summer but today we decided to go and experience it. Campo Fina has a large covered back patio complete with a bar, wood-fired pizza oven and pizza prep shack with windows and you can watch Pizzaiolo stretching dough and making pizzas. There is even a bocce court. The tables are all made from reclaimed wood and the patio roof is covered with lush grape vines all over the top, so it gives the feeling of being in Italy in the summertime for alfresco dining.

We didn’t have a reservation but were seated right away. It was an incredibly hot day so we were happy to be in the shade with fans and a breeze blowing through. The staff was very efficient and attentive. We looked over the menu and could see they had a nice selection of antipasti, salads, pastas, and pizzas. Being the meat-eaters that we are, we ended up going with the Pizza North End that has mozzarella, fennel salami, spicy coppa, onions, peppers, arugula, and ended up replacing the onions, peppers, and arugula with pepperoni. We also ordered a Cesar salad to share and some Coca-Cola’s but learned that Campo Fina does not have traditional Coca-Cola but the “Italian style” Coca-Cola, so I ordered a diet and Gary ordered a regular. The drinks tasted actually really good, and Gary’s was made with real cane sugar….. just don’t find that anymore.

Salad came out and it was large and yummy. Even had large croutons with anchovy slices. Lettuce was very crispy too. As we waited for our pizza the Pizzaiolo was kept very busy with lots of pizza orders, and it was very interesting to watch how he made them. We stat right across from the wood-fired pizza oven and it was very hot!!

Our pizza was served, and we were ready. The first thing we noticed is the good amount of topping. There were char bubbles from the wood-fired oven, and it smelled delicious. As we started to eat the pizza we noticed the crust first and that the center was floppy, bot as crisp as we originally expected. The outer crust was firm and crispy just not the center. There was plenty of cheese too, but the pizza was not at all greasy, even with all the meats. Also, this pizza did not have any sauce but somehow it worked. All the meats and the cheese were very tasty and the coppa salami ad a nice spicy bite to it. We enjoyed the pizza and salad.

When you are in the mood for pizza, look no further than Campo Fina in Healdsburg. If you are looking for a delicious pizza with great ambiance to match, this is the place to go! Located in North San Francisco wine country, Healdsburg, CA.

Let’s rate Campo Fina on a scale of 1 (being lowest) to 5 (being highest):

Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco may be one of the most iconic places to visit when in California. The wharf is full of amazing eateries and shops, but Cioppino’s Restaurant in particular will leave you completely satisfied with their delicious Italian food. This restaurant has a warm atmosphere that is perfect for families or couples looking for an enjoyable meal. The restaurant has been featured on TV shows such as Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. Today, Gary and I were at Cioppino’s to try their pizza.

Approaching Cioppino’s you can smell the delicious garlic and tomato sauce. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and breeze though indoor is available with proof of Covid vaccination card.

The waitstaff are super friendly and efficient and took really good care of us. At one point the sunshine was rather bright and hot, and they moved umbrellas around for us, so we’d be more comfortable sitting outside. The Cesar salad came out first and we ordered a small, but it was easily enough for two people to share. Nice tangy dressing and crispy lettuce. The people watching outside is fantastic as there are tourists from all over the world walking by.

I had a direct view of the pizza ovens, and it didn’t take long at all for our hot and fresh pizza to be ready. This is one good-looking pizza, and it was now time to taste it. Pizza time!! The first thing we notice is the golden crust and how crispy it is. By far, Cioppino’s pizza crust is one of our favorites we’ve had thus far on the great San Francisco Pizza Tour of 2021. If you like a solid and crispy crust then this pizza is for you. The pepperoni and Italian sausage toppings were high-quality but had a subtle flavor so not too overpowering like you can get with some Italian sausage. The cheese was light but full-flavored and tasted like a mozzarella Parmesan combo and the sauce was not garlicky at all also very subtle. There was a good amount of toppings on this pizza, and it was very delicious. And this was certainly not a greasy pizza at all and a very high-quality pie.

The location of Cioppino’s being on Fisherman’s Wharf right in downtown San Francisco just steps away from the Bay with views of Alcatraz and proximity to all the attractions of the wharf simply can’t be beat and, you add delicious high-quality food onto that (not cheap touristy food) it is a wonderful experience and should not be missed.

Let’s rate Cioppino’s Restaurant on a scale of 1 (being lowest) to 5 (being highest):

Style/Crust : Oven baked pizza – 4.8

Sauce: Basic red sauce –  3.8

Continuing our search for the best pizza in San Francisco we are trying Luisa’s Restaurant Wine Bar Since 1959 right in Little Italy today. This is an old-school small restaurant with photos of Sophia Loren decorating the walls, bottles of limoncello on shelves and counters, and so many homemade favorites on the menu (and being ordered by many people)  like pizza, spaghetti, gnocchi, meat balls, linguine, pollo piccata, cannelloni and so much more. We were here to try the gourmet Neapolitan thin crust pizza today as we continue the search for the best pizza in San Francisco but these pasta dishes being brought out from the kitchen looked seriously delicious so we might need to do a bonus blog post of one or two of them.

Pizza Quattro Stagioni Luisa's Restaurant Wine Bar Since 1959
Pizza Quattro Stagioni Luisa’s Restaurant Wine Bar Since 1959

Pizzas here are gourmet Neapolitan and thin crust and baked in a pizza oven not wood-fired. We ordered the Quattro Stagione that has cheese, margherita, pepperoni, and meatballs. Quattro Stagioni in Italian means the four seasons and it translates to dividing a pizza into four sections and toppings can be any combo. We didn’t order a salad today but had Americano coffees instead as we waited….. We had been walking up and down the hills of San Francisco and were a little tired so the coffee was a nice pick me up and was made from freshly ground espresso beans.
