Get ready to stand out in a crowd!! The Pop-Art-Princess skirt from Pigtails and Pirates embodies the 1950s pop art movement with imagery from advertisements, comic books, and the kitschy elements of cultural life.  When I first saw this skirt all I could think was Andy Warhol and Roy Liechtenstein’s influence are all here in this one fabulous skirt…. Must have it!!

As many of you know I am no stranger to color…. The brighter and bolder the better.  Wearing bright and colorful outfits gives me so much energy and I feel so vibrant and full of life!! I was so excited to receive this fabulous skirt and could not wait to do a photoshoot in it. I knew I wanted to have a vintage Polaroid camera (thank you my hubby Gary)  as my prop and thought Andy Warhol would have liked that too and then we had this amazing vintage bright yellow Sculptura Donut Phone by Western Electric Company that would be too much fun to use as a prop.

In these pictures taken by my very talented hubby Gary, I am wearing the skirt in an Australian 16 and find it fits my waist nicely and lies perfectly against my curvy hips. I paired it with my simple yet sexy white Doris top from Pinup Girl Clothing and a teal green belt. The skirt does accommodate a light petticoat.

The pattern pops so much and the colors are brilliant. Our set included my hubby’s handy work on the wall clock and our specially painted Godzilla painting from El Gato Gomez. It was great fun shooting the skirt with our cool props. I hope you reach out to Laura; owner of Pigtails and Pirates and not only see what beautiful dresses and outfits she makes but you can also ask her about custom orders too (she makes my dresses to fit me with the top half larger in size to the waist/skirt).  Laura is so creative with her color combos and fabrics. Saturday Antiquing at Whistle Stop Antiques

It has been raining for a while now here in Northern California. Lots of flooding and people badly effected. This is not the norm. We are usually in a perpetual drought. Thank goodness my family is just fine. One positive is that they vineyards are already starting to bloom and this time next month they will be stunning.

Being a rainy soggy Saturday, we went to Whistle Stop Antiques mall in Santa Rosa down by Railroad Square to take a look around and search for some treasures. It is really hit or miss like it is at most antique malls. We have been really lucky a few times and found some really great treasures like our vintage Philco Predicta TV, some fabulous Sputnik lighting and Mid-Century Modern chairs and cabinets. Whistlestop is a multi-dealer mall and even has a 2nd floor upstairs. You will find a nice assortment of vintage, retro, mid-century, kitchenalia, Pyrex, artwork, jewelry, and lots of ephemera and even a lot of vintage trains, toys, and Pez collectibles….. something no doubt for everyone.

Here’s a couple pics we snapped. A lovely vintage carousel horse, an incredible Carlo of Hollywood black stallion painting in the amazing forced perspective frame, glass displays, and even a super neat vintage 1950s chrome dining set upholstered with new retro grey fabric. I would love to take this one home but…… where to put it? It was a fun visit at Whistle Stop today!!

When I saw that a white and lavender floral print Jenny dress was coming soon I could not wait to get my hands on it. The florals are so stunning in colors of purple roses, lavender hyacinths and blue orchids and then there are the pretty green leaves all set against a white base. The Jenny dress has become one of my wardrobe staples and I don’t have nearly enough!! When you are a full-busted gal like myself it is very hard to find dresses that fit, have style, and come in great prints and that is why the Jenny is a staple for me. I always feel put together and effortless. I know I look glamorous and elegant and that gives me so much confidence. The Jenny dress is styled after the 1960s sundresses. The first thing you notice when you step into the dress is that the bodice is lined, boned, and fused. The straps are adjustable so you can show as much or as little of your curves as you are comfortable with. Because of the adjustable straps and boning, the dress has incredible structure and will flatter a range of bust sizes, even those of us blessed with full-bust lines can comfortably wear this gorgeous dress (without a bra) and feel very put together and chic. The skirt on the White and Lavender Floral Print Jenny is a very full circle skirt and the material is a luxurious sateen that holds pleats and shape incredibly and this version even has pockets!! Zips nicely up the back and nips in your waist. Be prepared for lots of compliments!!

I am wearing this Jenny White and Lavender Floral Print in a 2XL (all my Jenny dresses are 2XL) and this size accommodates my full bust, yes, it is very roomy in the waist as I take XL in Jenny skirts but I love having the option of adding a belt to take in some of the excess fabric if I prefer, depending on how much waist definition I want that day. Pairing a cardigan has never been easier as having so many lovely color options in the floral pattern makes it so easy.  The skirt is already full but if you want even more fullness then a petticoat underneath will give you that extra volume. This print is beyond beautiful and you will be so happy with it. Hurry and get yours before they sell out!

Midway Antique Mall – Atomic, Eames Era, Mid-Century Modern Galore

Over the holiday weekend we decided to take a drive out to Sacramento, CA. When I researched Sacramento I found ‘Midway Antique Mall’ which is a multi-dealer mall and specializes in Eames Era and 1950s merchandise and collectibles. Also, there is ‘57th Street Antiques Row’ which is multiple shops and malls on 57th Street in Sacramento. So, there was sure to be plenty of looking and shopping to keep us busy.

The drive was over 2 hours and traffic was heavy. When we approached Sacramento the sky had a brown tint and the smell of smoke was thick, there was a fire burning somewhere and by the looks of the sky and the smell, it was a big fire. It was a hot day too, by the time we arrived it was over 95 degrees!

We pulled up into the parking of Midway Antique Mall and there were lots of cars. We walked through the front door and were transported directly to 1960! OUTSTANDING! The first 4,000 sqft or so of this mall is all 1950s and 1960s rooms ranging from multiple setup rooms of living and dining rooms, a dentist office, bedroom and kitchens. Check out these amazing pictures that my husband took.

This mall is clean and well lit. Lots and lots of glass cases and booths that have vintage cameras, kitchen items, paintings, clocks, books, stamps, Holt Howard items and pixieware, vintage clothing and dressing rooms to try on the items, and lots of 1950s and 1960s poodles along with lovely linens.

The staff at this mall are so friendly and knowledgeable and a dealer named Kevin helped us the entire 3 hours we were there. As we were up at the register, Mark, the owner was ringing us up and packing our items with great care and he was so nice and friendly and told us stories about his 2 Yorkie dogs and how photo shoots take place in his mall and lots of magazine and TV shows have photographed and filmed at the mall because of all the neat and fabulous rooms and items. It has been a very, very, long time since I was in an antique mall and had such a blast! Even if we hadn’t bought a few boxes of items to take back to town with us, the shear experience of walking around the mall and seeing all the 1950s and 1960s rooms that were setup was such a thrill!!  We will certainly be back!!

Hello lovelies!! It has been an incredibly fast moving week. I have had a couple photo shoots plus my day job has propelled me to exceed greater bounds and that is super exciting.
