2016 has been a truly incredible year and I have so much to be thankful for. I have been doing Pinup for about one year now and have made so many friendships because of it. Pinup has given me the confidence to really put myself out there as a curve model and I hear from so many of my wonderful followers that they receive so much inspiration from my photos and how it makes their day. My style tends to be classic, elegant cheesecake with a hint of tease. If you follow me you know that I am all about the smile and facial expressions. I have been having so much fun doing Pinup and I am over-the-moon happy that I get to do so much of it with my photographer hubby Gary. We get to share in so many collaborations and adventures!!

Highlights for me personally on the Pinup front in  2016 was I was fortunate to have  opportunities to model for some of the leading brands in Pinup, Rockabilly and retro, vintage fashion and I learned so much from each photo shoot. Also, most of these brands are run by very strong women and it is so motivating to see just how hard they all work and what incredible work ethics they have. My pictures have been published internationally more than a dozen times this year and I am extremely proud of the hard work that went into each and every photo shoot and getting to work with the amazing photographers, hair and makeup teams and of course the magazines/publications.

Dreams really do come true thanks to my hubby!! We added a 1956 Nash Metropolitan to our family in 2016. The car needed a lot of love but hubby rescued it from a field and had it restored. Our Nash Metropolitan is a daily driver for us and we drive it to and from the office. Our Metro has also been featured in many of my photoshoots (some of my favorite pics are below). Many of you have told me how much you look forward to seeing Luna (our fluffy Bichon Frise puppy dog in the opening to this post) in my pics and here are some my favorites from 2016. I promise we will have many more pics with Luna in 2017…. she has a short attention span so sometimes we have a good chuckle because when she is done, she is done!

2016 was also full of classic car shows. We made it to all the big shows in our area this year and boy were the summer ones scorching hot!! It was so great getting to meet so many fans and posing with you all. We look forward to the 2017 classic car shows and seeing you all again!!

Many of you ask about the props and sets we use for photoshoots and all the items you see are ours. We really do live the vintage / Mid-Century Modern lifestyle and get a thrill when hunting for goodies to add to our collections, home and can be used in my pics. The red Philco Predicta TV in some December pics was a great find for us and it works!! We have some more neat and out-of-this-world treasures that will be featured in upcoming photoshoots.
Wishing you all an incredible 2017 filled with lots of love, good health, wealth and joy!!

Pinup Girls and Poodle Skirts

Yasmina Greco Pinup Poodle Skirt

Pinup girls and Poodles are quintessential of the 1950s so I wanted to do a post for you all about the origins of the Poodle skirt and showcase one of my all time favorite Poodle skirts made by a brand you might not be familiar with – Dangerfield Clothing.

Rockabilly gals, Pinup dolls, and retro/vintage fashion enthusiasts can thank Juli Lynne Charlot for the Poodle skirt. Per Wikipedia –  Juli Lynne was a young woman who wanted to be in fashion but she had no money for the new styles. In 1947, at the age of 25, Charlot was invited to a holiday party in Los Angeles and wanted to create a dress especially for the event. Not having money at the time Charlot decided to make her own skirt for the Christmas party. Charlot stated in an United Press International article of February 25, 1953 that, “If I had known how to sew, or had the money to purchase better materials, I would have never made the circle skirt.”

Today, when we think of 1950s clothing, the image that most often pops into our mind is the poodle skirt. Most vintage collectors know Charlot as the designer of some of the very best and most clever circle skirts to come out of the 1950s. It was quite fashionable at the time for women to be accompanied by dogs on leashes so Charlot decided to make a dog-themed skirt. And thus the iconic poodle skirt was born. Charlot’s creations were more than clothing – they told a story – and became conversation starters. Read more about Charlot and her company on Wikipedia

In these pictures taken by my hubby Gary I am wearing my favorite Poodle skirt by Australian brand Dangerfield Clothing

The skirt is incredibly well constructed with a built-in petticoat hem and the white Poodles are adorable with red flowers and bows and they really pop against the fabric making them standout beautifully. This is such a great novelty print skirt!! I am wearing my Heart of Haute Lily top in red and added my vintage Poodle purse and red heels. This outfit is perfect for the Autumn and winter and not too heavy as all the fabrics breathe. Even my my fluff ball Bichon Frise puppy dog Luna decided to join in for some pictures!!
