Say Cheese! Vintage Valentine Cards

Where is the time going? It was just Christmas, then New Years, and now it will be Valentines Day. How sweet are these vintage Valentines? These are all camera / photography themed. A while back I did a post about all the cute vintage anthropomorphic Valentine cards and this year I came across these adorable cards of little cuties taking pictures. March will be here soon too and I am super excited as I will be heading up to Portland, Oregon for the Christine Palmer antiques and collectibles show where there will be 1,000 booths. I usually attend this show in July for the summer show and once in October for the Christmas show but this will be my first Spring show and I am really looking forward to it. I usually go to the show with my twin sister and we have the best time. I can’t wait to see what treasures we find. As has become my ‘norm’ I will be live tweeting and doing Vine video posts and fingers crossed the internet connection is better than it was at the summer show so please stay tuned, lots of great footage to come.

Vintage Halloween Decorations – A HOT Collectible!

Vintage German Halloween Lanterns

Halloween is around the corner and I know many of you are interested in starting  vintage Halloween collection but are not sure where to start.  Collecting vintage Halloween masks, celluloid toys, noise makers, containers or lanterns are just some of the spooky fun collectibles you can start your collection with. Below are some tips that I hope are helpful to you as you start your quest to collect vintage Halloween.

What are they?
Vintage Halloween papier-mâché lanterns, noisemakers, and candy containers were originally used for adult-oriented parties from 1915 until about 1950. Unlike Christmas collectibles, which were carefully packed up and handed down through generations, Halloween items were not meant to keep, so finding undamaged pieces today is difficult.

Where do I find them?
You probably won’t find Halloween collectibles at random garage sales or flea markets unless you’re lucky. Instead, try big shows like Atlantique City, Brimfield, and Round Top, The Portland Antique and Collectible show, Ebay, Etsy, antique and collectible shops and vintage toy shows.

How much will I pay?
Most lanterns are $300 to $500 because of their scarcity, but some are worth thousands. Watch out for missing eyes and burned handles. Expect to pay $15–$100 for noisemakers (clickers, rattlers, and tambourines). Candy containers are usually a bit more expensive—$100 or more. All prices depend on condition and rarity.

Do your research too. There are many books and websites where you can learn so much about vintage Halloween collectibles as well has to store and preserve them so they continue to last for many more years.

Nifty 50s Retro Diner Novelty Print Skirt – Perfectly Pinup by Banned Apparel

Yasmina Greco Pinup Banned Apparel Diner skirtLet’s start this post with the obvious ‘This skirt has a fabulous 50’s retro diner print’ and bright colors making it a stand out favorite!! Skirt is may the alternative UK clothing brand ‘Banned Apparel’ and they have a full range of vintage and retro inspired clothing items from skirts, dresses, shoes and more. I am a big fan of Banned Apparel and find their items to be top quality. Banned sells most wholesale but they do have a USA website as well.

I first saw this stunning Retro 50’s Diner Novelty Border Skirt on the ShopVDM website and pre-ordered it immediately. The folks that run ShopVDM are delightful and ship very quickly. I was really excited when my skirt arrived and found it to be exactly as pictured with a soft yellow background with bright colors that make up the boarder print scene of a diner, waitress and classic cars; there are even atomic starbursts on this print!!Yasmina Greco Pinup Banned Apparel 50s Diner skirtThe skirt is very light so it will be perfect for warmer weather. My hubby was really sweet and snapped a few pics of me wearing the skirt, I do have a petticoat underneath and love the shape it gives the skirt, I paired it with my Heart of Haute Lilly top in blue and added a wide belt. I am wearing the skirt in a size XL and find it fits true to size without stretch. I think this will be a favorite of mine to wear to the upcoming classic car shows. Pair this one with a fun novelty bag and you ready to go out for the day!! ShopvDM is taking pre-orders now for another round so hurry and get yours before it sells out!!

A Pinup Girl’s Countdown to Christmas

Thanksgiving at our house was perfect. Hubby did all the cooking, he is a great chef!! Turkey was moist and delicious and all the sides were extra yummy. The day was sunny and cool. We talked on the phone with family and got all caught up. It was a perfect day.

Friday we drove to our favorite antique mall up in Sacramento – ‘Midway Antique Mall’. The drive was not bad. It’s 2hrs+ each way and luckily traffic wasn’t terrible. It was sunny and a cool day and everyone around seemed to be a really good mood.Midway Antique Mall

Arriving at the mall there were plenty of cars in the parking lot. The mall didn’t advertise any sales or specials. In we went and had a blast. Hubby was so sweet and generous with me!! He also has a great eye for pretty finds for me. I got some gorgeous vintage brooches and a delightful pair of vintage Christmas tree earrings, and my latest obsession turquoise blue snowflake Pyrex. Even found some vintage Shiny Brite mercury glass ornaments.

This mall does not disappoint. We saw a stunning Heywood Wakefield dining room with chairs set. Lots of atomic dinnerware, retro and mid-century wall clocks, flamingo art, curtains, furniture, formica kitchen tables, Carlo of Hollywood art, vintage kitschy poodles, and so much more. There were also a couple Mid-Century Modern Christmas rooms setup and that was fabulous!! We even found these incredible fiberglass figurines of Wimpy and Olive Oyl from Popeye. These figurines are in a shop in the mall run by Hepcat Restorations and they have a ton of cool atomic and Mid-Century Modern art, lamps, furniture and more. You won’t be disappointed!!

After a couple hours of antiquing, we were ready to head back to the city. We had a really great day. I can’t believe Cyber Monday is here in a few hours and the count down to Christmas has started!! Stay tuned for my countdown tips!!
