Another beautiful day in San Francisco and off we go to Little Italy in North Beach. There are so many Italian restaurants and pizzerias in North Beach and today we selected Acquolina San Francisco a corner Italian restaurant. It had a lot of outdoor seating and looked really inviting. Lots of tourists are making it back to San Francisco and there sure were lots of people out and enjoying some Italian cuisine and it is a wonderful site to see after a year of being in quarantine.

Acquolina has a nice looking menu with pastas, salads and pizzas. The pizzas are made with 5 Stagioni flour and San Marzano tomato sauce. We ordered the Maiala pizza that has mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni, Italian ham and Molinari Italian sausage. We also ordered a Caesar salad to start with.

The staff at Acquolina were all very polite and professional, wearing masks too. They brought us waters and then our soft drinks and salad. The salad was very yummy!! The dressing was just right without a fishy anchovy taste (not our fave so this was great) and little to no garlic. The croutons were crispy and very tasty.

Pizza time!! Our pizza arrived a short while later all bubbly and hot. The pizza was not floppy nor greasy. It had a nice crust, just thick enough. The toppings were very delicious. The Italian ham was incredibly tasty and had a hint of sweetness that compliments the pizza nicely. Not a lot of cheese but just enough. The sauce….. I am a sauce eater and this was one of the best tasting pizza sauces I have had in a long time. It had a tang but not too tangy, and it had a richness that only San Marzano tomatoes can add. We really enjoyed this pizza and ate every single piece!! I think it was one the best pizzas we’ve had on the great Pizza Tour of San Francisco 2021 so far. Considering the restaurant’s location, the pizza was only $20 and so it definitely will not break the bank. We had a pizza not long ago just up the street that cost double and wasn’t nearly as good as this one.
