Visiting Ties To The Past Antiques

November 11, 2010 By: Fan

Earlier this week a colleague of mine stopped by my office to visit for a bit and chit chat about the weekend and she told me about an antique shop called Ties To The Past and asked if I had ever been as she and her husband went over the weekend and she thought I would really like it.  I had not heard of Ties To The Past before and was super excited about a “new” spot to visit. I told her I would try to go later in the week and thanked her for the information.

Well heck, being the eager beaver that I am when it comes to antiques and collectibles, I ducked out of work a little early that day and plunked in the address to Ties To The Past into my car’s navigation system and it was only approx.10 miles away from my office so putting “the peddle to the medal” I was on my way.

Ties To The Past is in an older strip mall with a Sonic in the middle of the parking lot. The outside looked cute with the painted signs and the mouse but just a tad run-down. No worries, I could not wait to get in and start my treasure hunting. Once inside I was blown away buy the size of this shop…its pretty big, light and bright! There was a nice lady at the counter who said “hello” and could see from the look on my face that this was my first time in and she asked if I was looking for anything in particular and let me know she would be by to check on me and see if I needed any cabinets opened. As I started looking in booths I could tell right away that this shop is a combo of antiques, collectibles, junk, eclectics, new and whimsical items so certainly something for everyone.  A couple booths were all setup for Christmas and the Holidays with vintage Santa’s and ornaments and other booth’s had nice selections of dishes and china and also furniture. I even found an entire wall of “really retro” 1970s yellow and orange smiley-face items!! Once I got the hang of how things were setup in this shop I went right through the booths and was done shopping within 1 hour. There were several booths that were almost bare and empty so I don’t know if they were “in transition” as far as coming or going so that cut down on the amount of shopping time as there was not much to see in those booths.

I ended up with a couple items from a darling vintage 1950s Thames Snowman figurine (SOOOOOO Cute) to a couple 1950s Santa Claus candleholders and a lovely Mary Engelbreit Scottie Dog pitcher.  Lady at counter carefully wrapped my items and gave me some information on the location begin around for 4 years and how once a month they have customer appreciate day and Cappuccino Friday’s where you can drink Cappuccinos and shop. The store really tries to make it inviting and comfortable for shoppers and I like that. Cute shop with a mixture of stuff and nice staff.
