On July 20, 2022, at 4:35PM the rarest piece of Pyrex in the world just became the most expensive piece of Pyrex in the world selling at auction on eBay for a record $22,100!! This particular auction had Pyrex collectors from around the world spellbound and in suspense as they were glued to the auction listing for one week watching the bids go up and up and up. There was chatter amongst collector groups of who the mystery bidders might be and guessing how high the winning bid could go.
This precious piece of Pyrex is called “Lucky in Love” and is a standard Cinderella Covered Casserole 473 Series 1 Quart. The pattern consists of green blades of grass, pretty pink hearts for love, and green four-leaf clovers for luck on a clean white background and together it stands for Lucky-in-Love. This pattern is so unimaginably rare that most collectors had never seen it before and only one or two pieces had ever been sold on the market. Many speculated if it was even a real piece that serious collectors refer to as a “Holy Grail: or “Unicorn”. Some even wondered if it was really created as a promotional piece in 1959 or just a myth. There are rumors that some folks that may have worked at the Corning factory in PA even said that this was prototype and perhaps 10 or 12 pieces were created that didn’t quite meet the factory standards as the grass blades bled through the hearts, so it was never released to the general public.
The eBay auction on July 20, 2022, is the reported third piece to come on the market. My internet research found that Country Living Magazine did an article on a piece that came up for auction in 2015 and sold for over $4,000, and the Goodwill of Western New York had a piece they auctioned in 2017 that sold for a reported $5,994 on the Goodwill auction site.
The Lucky in Love pattern is one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find designs, so it’s no wonder that this particular piece sold for such a shocking and impressive price. Be sure to keep your eyes open for unique pieces, as well as other pieces of rare Pyrex that are up for grabs in the market and save your pennies!
