It was a gorgeous day out here in Sonoma County and we decided after being here for the past 4 months it was about time to take a drive and see the beach seeing as we are now living in California. We headed towards Bodega Bay and that turns onto CA 1 the coastal route with our Bichon Frise Luna. Drive was nice, lots of country, vineyards, and apple orchards. We drive through a little town that has a casino, some restaurants, a market and a couple antique shops. My husband promises on our way to stop at a antique shop for me. Eventually we get to Bodega Bay and there isn’t all that much to see as it is a bay but there are lots of camp grounds, beach town houses and Inns along with a couple beachy looking restaurants. We keep driving and now we are on CA 1 the ocean is there for miles and miles! The roads were rather windy so after a while we decide to head back towards town and we do end up stopping at the Wooden Duck Antique Shop and there are a few women in the shop asking the friendly lady behind the counter what the building across the street is and she says that it is Potter School House and was featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s move “The Birds”. WOW! The lady also talked a little about how the movie shot scenes down in the town at The Tides Restaurant where Tippi Hedren was first bit by a seagull and legend has it that Hitchcock declared the town’s birds menacing.
So, back to the Wooden Duck Antique Shop. This shop is small, only the downstairs portion is the shop but it is full of quality antiques and collectibles. Lots of fine sterling silver, porcelains, dishes, and quilts. Everything is very expensive but, it is quality. I did not buy anything and the lighting was very dark inside so pictures didn’t turn out well but the lady running the shop was super nice and friendly an dI will certainly stop in again on the way to the beach.
