Kicking off the Great San Francisco Pizza Tour of 2021

San Francisco Pizza Tour of 2021
San Francisco Pizza Tour of 2021

A few years ago Gary and I took a trip to Lake Como, Italy. The Lake Como region is absolutely stunning and we got to see elegant palazzos, gorgeous villas, explore several of the small towns that span up and down the lake, experience lovely lakeside restaurants and take in stunning lake views almost everywhere we’d look. What we ate at these lakeside restaurants was pizza. We are pizza lovers by nature so getting to indulge in pizza almost everyday of our trip was one big dream come true. We can remember that every town had their own take and way of making pizza and the ingredients would be different. If you liked pepperoni for example, your pizza would have different pepperoni (small pepperoni slices, or larger slices, or small and spicy slices) depending on the little town you were at. This really intrigued us. I wish today we had documented more of those experiences (we have a lot of photos of the beautiful locations, but back then it wasn’t as acceptable to whip out your iPhone and take pictures of your meal for social media like it is today so, only a few of those photos exist) but hopefully one day soon (when the pandemic is gone) we can re-take that magical Lake Como vacation and document all the pizzas for you.

The one thing that hasn’t changed is our love and enjoyment of pizza. And, we have quite a few pizza places right here in our wonderful city by the bay San Francisco that we can share with you. In fact, you will find a monthly series on my blog “The Great San Francisco Pizza Tour of 2021” where I’ll be sharing our pizza adventures with you all as we search for the best pizza in San Francisco so sit back and enjoy and apologies in advance if these posts make you hungry.

Visiting San Francisco and Fisherman’s Wharf During COVID-19

San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf January 30, 2021
San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf January 30, 2021

Saturday, January 30, 2021 my sweet hubby Gary and I decided to head into San Francisco and spend a fun day in the city. It’s the first time since before March 2020 that we’ve been in downtown San Francisco because everything went into lockdown due to the Covid pandemic. Just 2 days ago the Governor started allowing some businesses to reopen and outdoor dining to resume but we are still in the purple tier so the utmost precautions, masks, and social distancing  is a must.

It had rained that morning but was already drying out with sunshine starting to come through as we made the 50 mile drive into the city. The drive was pretty quiet. Not too much traffic as folks appeared to still be staying home for the most part. The blue sky was brilliant and the sun was out as we made our way over the Golden Gate Bridge.

The inspiration for this photo shoot are the Puma RS-X Chinese New Year sneakers.  The remixed cubed sneaker with brilliant red, black and gold couldn’t be more perfect for celebrating the Chinese New Year and my red Supreme hoodie with the gold Supreme is totally on point and really makes my outfit.

Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Review

The Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Wall Mural Popeye

I am so excited to tell you about our stay at a San Francisco boutique hotel called The Hotel Zephyr. We specifically chose this hotel for its location and theme; nautical and located right in the heart of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. The guest rooms have porthole windows and “SOS” bedding. Anything novelty or kitsch and we are there!

The Hotel Zephyr San Francisco Nautical Theme SOS

The Hotel Zephyr in San Francisco is a family friendly motel with over 300 rooms and decorated in a nautical theme with a fabulous courtyard filled with seating areas, multiple fire pits, retro games that are life-size like Connect Four and Jenga. There is also a vintage 1950s Shasta trailer serving up snacks and beverages and then there is an amazing game room filled with comfortable seating, ping-pong tables, pool, and table shuffleboard. So much to do right there at the hotel!! The lobby is so cool with shipping container wall panels, porthole windows and seating, rope buoy lighting, an incredible wall mural of Popeye the Sailor Man and lots of spots to plugin and sit on comfortable sofas and chairs. Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Moon Landing – Far Out Exhibit at SFMOMA

SFMOMA Far Out Apoll 11
SFMOMA Far Out Exhibit – Astronaut Space Suits Apollo 11

It was on July 20, 1969 when the first moon landing happened with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins on the Apollo 11 and it was the most thrilling time for space exploration in our nations history and the world. I wasn’t born yet, but outer space travel, discovering new planets and galaxies, and that question of are there aliens or Martians and just the fascination of what would it be like one day for humans to live in space have always fascinated me.
