Happy 4th of July – Patriotic Collectibles

Patriotism and the Spirit of Americana can be traced back to the 1800s when it was part of the daily life of adults and children and their love of the USA. The patriotic items that were made back in the 1800s and early 1900s are extremely collectible today and very rare and hard to find. Items that were made during World Wars I and WWII are also highly sought after and collectibles today include composition dolls, flags, banners, presidential buttons and political memorabilia, portraits of soldiers, antique hand painted postcards, stars and stripes, and red white and blue items to name a few.

We have included some fantastic examples of early Americana and Patriotism to include a composition Betsy Ross Doll wearing a flag dress, and antique early 1900s patriotic cloth faced doll with a patriotic theme, some patriotic dolls that were made during World War II and dressed as a soldier and Uncle Sam and a pair of vintage Enesco salt and pepper shakers featuring Betsy Ross and the Bill of Rights –All these collectibles really evoke the spirit we have as Americans and the love we have for our country. Wishing you all a safe 4th of July Independence Day!!

Visiting EBAY Headquarters

Been a whirlwind week in Silicon Valley. Stopped at Apple and Yahoo. My trip ended with a pleasant visit to eBay headquarters in San Jose. Great to be at the eBay campus and really good meetings too.

Vintage Camera Collecting –

Vintage Camera Collecting has always been a popular collecting category but recently it has exploded! Today, everyone wants a collection of vintage cameras. From Bakelite cameras to vintage Polariod’s, Kodak or Rolleiflex.
A couple things to consider when collecting cameras. What is the overall condition of the camera?   Can you still get film? Exposure system? Is the Lens in good condition? Does the shutter work? Are the Light Seals tight?
My husband is the collector in our family and I have an appreciation for the design and style of the cameras. I tell my husband “I don’t know why, but when I look at vintage cameras, it makes me happy”.  Perhaps like most other collectible I enjoy, I wonder about the person or people that owned the item before I did, what were they like, what kind of life did they have. I guess, that is part of the magic of vintage and antiques!!

Vintique Friday Finds

Stopped at a couple local sales this Friday and scored some adorable items. My favorites are the vintage Christmas tree boy salt and pepper shakers and the 1950s vintage country rooster jam jar. A couple other finds are a vintage Napco Christmas girl planter, a Portmeirion tray, a lovely Desert Rose vase…..I think it is actually the cookie jar without a lid, a pair of vintage poodle dog salt and pepper shakers and another vase (too tall for pic). At the end of June I will in silicon valley and visiting some antique shops there and there are a few multi-dealer malls I can’t wait to get into. I will of course post pics along the way!!

Cloverdale Antiques Fair 2012

Gorgeous sunny and hot day here in wine country. We drove out to the town of Cloverdale for their annual antiques fair. Cloverdale is about 20 miles north of us and the drive was really pretty as the landscapes are filled with vineyards and wineries. Downtown Cloverdale is small and cute, reminds me of a little old-fashioned town where the cottage homes have white picket fences as you enter town. The antiques fair was not what I imagined. It was so small!! Maybe 8-10 vendors only.  Below are some pics we took. It was a fun day trip, really scenic drive to and from and the town was cute. Over 90 degrees on the way back home!! Hope you all are having a great weekend.
